Move of the Week: Woodchoppers

Woodchoppers are a turbocharged ab-blasting, buy fat-burning exercise. Woodchoppers are weight-bearing, doctor high intensity and require an extreme amount of core stabilization. The mechanics mimic a rotational swing which makes it an ideal exercise for athletes training for sports like baseball, tennis, and golf.

How to: Engage your core to stiffen your torso and stabilize your spine. Hold a dumbbell or medicine ball out in front of you, arms straight. Rotate your arms down and to the left and then move them across your body, up and to the right. Keep your core engaged and arms out in front of you the entire time. Be sure to feel the downward movement as well, don’t just let gravity take the weight down. Because we are doing this movement as a HIIT exercise (AKA fast – max reps) be sure to rotate your feet so you don’t blow out your knees.
