One round of this workout is 16 minutes of pure Tabata torture! Tabata intervals are 20/10 (20 seconds at your max intensity and 10 seconds of full rest). A good way to gauge your intensity level is to determine if you can still move around during those 10 seconds of rest. If you can, then you need to go harder on the 20 second intervals and make sure you take each 10 second rest period fully. Dr. Tabata developed and tested this protocol and it's super effective. Listen to your body though, if you need to lower your intensity please do so and feel good that you are working hard for your health and fitness. Be proud of your efforts! :-) You rock!

This is the sixth workout in my Lean Body Series. Yay, for those of you who have made it this far! Awesome job!

Double tap if you love push ups! MOVE OF THE WEEK: Decline pike push ups (a.k.a. decline military press push ups; a.k.a. raised pike push ups)

Aka… Shoulder Killer. These are awesome and I love these. However if you have shoulder issues, please do not do this push up variation. This is taking the pike push up to the next level and is the last progression towards a handstand push up. It’s intense. Raised pike push ups are an excellent bodyweight workout for the shoulders. They primarily work your anterior and lateral deltoids and your triceps. They also engage the muscles of the upper back (the trapezius). Instructions:

1) Begin in downward dog position with your feet elevated on a chair, bench, or the wall. Your hips should be bent close to 90 degrees.
2) Keep your head in a neutral position and slowly lower down between the hands before pushing back to the starting position.

Tips:

1) Like regular push ups, you don’t want your head coming down behind your hands.

The interval on this one is 40/20 with the 20 being a fun kickboxing combo, so there is no rest built into this one (but please take it as you need it). This is full-on effective efficient fat burning at it's finest. You don't have to work out for a long time with this one but try for 2 rounds and then add on one of my strength workouts from my Body Sculpt Strength Series.
