5k PB – SPEED! Change “I can’t” into “I can” and pretty soon you will say, “I did”. I have never been a runner but as you may tell from my IG name, I’m big into HIIT. Lately I have gotten a bee in my bonnet to become FASTER at running. I only log about 5-20 running miles per month as I have other forms of cardio I prefer but even so, I was able to shave off over 4 mins on my 5k (3.1 mile) time! 23:38 is a personal best! This was a hilly run 1.5-5 incline. That’s the power of HIIT, Tabata, and cross-training for you! I never thought I would run it that fast without traditional race training, which I find boring. Tabata and HIIT workouts really work the fast twitch muscles and made that speed and endurance happen for me.
Heavy bag pushups! If you don’t have a heavy bag, improvise! Street light pole out in front of your house – your neighbors will love you!
Everyone should incorporate yoga into their fitness routine. According to the Mayo Clinic, football players and other athletes who lift a lot of weights, train non-stop, and are prone to injury can greatly benefit from yoga. Yoga helps flush out excess lactic acid in over-worked muscles, reducing an athlete’s chances of experiencing soreness and stiffness that can impede the next workout. Yoga builds strength, stability, and flexibility. And don’t even get me started on the benefits to the mind! Do it! #fitness #crosstrain #yoga #yogastrong #fitnessforlife #fitmama #makingachange
Flip your perspective! I love head stands! Not only does it clear my mind but it’s great strengthening for the core, shoulders, and arms – especially if you do a bound headstand on your forearms. Also…always a fun party trick!
