You get added fiber and nutrients and the same great taste and texture. I used the Organic Broccoli Slaw from Trader Joe's. Threw it in the microwave for about 1 minute on high. I love my turkey spaghetti over spiralized zucchini too. Yum!

Eating healthfully doesn’t have to be tasteless or boring.  Lower the fat and increase the protein in chicken or tuna salad by skipping the mayo and subbing in either greek yogurt or cottage cheese.  My personal preference is the cottage cheese substitution b/c it has slightly more protein, half the carbs, and a third of the sugar than Greek yogurt.  I also prefer the way it makes the chicken or tuna salad taste, since it’s less tart than yogurt.  If you think the texture will bother you, opt for the Greek yogurt. Either way, you can’t go wrong with this healthy spin.  If you are reducing your carbs, try putting it over a salad rather than eating it as a sandwich.

Recipe:  canned chicken breast, mixed with fat free cottage cheese, chopped Thai lime almonds, dried cranberries, pickles and/or banana peppers, sriracha and black pepper to taste.

Eating healthfully doesn’t have to be tasteless or boring. Lower the fat and increase the protein in chicken or tuna salad by skipping the mayo and subbing in either greek yogurt or cottage cheese. My personal preference is the cottage cheese substitution b/c it has slightly more protein, half the carbs, and a third of the sugar than Greek yogurt. I also prefer the way it makes the chicken or tuna salad taste, since it’s less tart than yogurt. If you think the texture will bother you, opt for the Greek yogurt. Are you REALLY awesome at eating cookies but not so awesome at eating oatmeal? Try these high fiber banana oatmeal drops - 3 ingredients!  Simple, healthy and tasty!  I can’t remember where I saw this, but I wanted to try it with my own tweaks. Mix 2 bananas with 1 cup regular oats (chop them up a little), and add some dark chocolate chips. I also decided to add cinnamon and nutmeg (because I add cinnamon to practically everything - yum!). Bake for 15 mins at 350 F.  Perfect for when you are feeling snacky or want a bit of a treat.  Notice that I did not call them cookies.  That sets up an expectation that, in my opinion, will not be met.  They are a tasty healthy treat though…my kids even liked them.  They are great the next day (toast them) and just perfect if you need to take your breakfast to-go.  And yes, there is a big bite out of the one in front! I was eager to try them.

The effect that diet can have on you now and in the future is astounding.  Putting the right food in your body, is akin to putting the right gasoline in your car - the type of fuel affects how well it functions.  Making the right food choices can reduce, eliminate, or prevent a variety of ailments.  In the case of salmon, this “SuperFood” has been shown to lower heart disease risk, help arthritis, reduce depression and possibly help with memory loss and Alzheimer’s.  When I think of food as fuel for my most important machine, I tend to make better choices. Today’s lunch is last night’s grilled salmon (in Montreal Steak Spice) over salad with a splash of rice vinegar as dressing. Yummy AND healthy! In addition to salmon’s amazing Omega-3 benefits, several recent studies have shown that salmon also contains bioactive peptides that provide special support for joint cartilage, insulin effectiveness, and the control of inflammation in the digestive tract.  It’s also chock full of vitamins and minerals and high in protein! High protein foods require more energy from the body to process and are also good for muscle building, which in turn helps to increase fat burning and metabolism (assuming you are also working out). So go eat some salmon this week!
