Today at the gym I had an encounter that stayed with me all day. I was in the locker room closing up my locker when the woman sitting next to me on the bench contentedly exclaimed, “Ahhhhh, I feel so good now!” “After your workout?” I asked. “Yes!” she said with a bright smile. Then she slowly stood up and walked away with the help of her walker. She’s 85 years old. She swims every single day. It’s far from easy for her to move around, but her attitude and her gratitude for what her body can do for her, rather than what it can't, is on point and I find her so inspiring.

Whatever our excuse is. It’s time to stop believing it.

Actually, I Can.

Today at the gym I had an encounter that stayed with me all day. Technique:

1) Begin with your feet hip width apart. Chest up and shoulder’s down and back (not up by your ears). Keep your core tight. Press your buttocks back as if you are going to sit down in a chair. Track over the 2nd and 3rd toe as you squat (don’t let your knees cave in). 2) On the upwards portion of your squat, raise your leg laterally with your toe pointed downwards. Heel is in line with the glute (not too far forward or too far behind you). Brief squeeze of the glute at the top and lower your leg back down. Squat and repeat on the lateral leg raise on the other side. That’s one rep.

Do a round of Tabata (20 seconds on 10 seconds off for 4 minutes), or do 3 sets of 12 reps.

Tip: This is also a great bodyweight exercise. You don’t even need the dumbbells to feel the burn and see results.

These are things that I personally do (or use) that I find really help me stay on track with my fitness goals. Each week, I will give us a little challenge – a single lifestyle change that we will focus on for the week and aim to incorporate into our lifestyle on a permanent basis. Killer Body Shred Tabata is the 18th workout in the Lean Body Series and it's another doozy! This is full-on intense with 3/4 of the workout being different Burpee variations! Don't worry, you can do it - one round is only 16 minutes! I was still a bit sick during this one and I did it, and so can you! All levels can do this, just go at your own max pace and get as many reps in as you can in the allotted interval. Notice I say

Killer Body Shred Tabata: Lean Body Series Workout #18

Killer Body Shred Tabata is the 18th workout in the Lean Body Series and it’s another doozy! This is full-on intense with 3/4 of the workout being different Burpee variations! Don’t worry, you can do it – one round is only 16 minutes! I was still a bit sick during this one and I did it, and so can you! All levels can do this, just go at your own max pace and get as many reps in as you can in the allotted interval. Notice I say “your own MAX pace”. Tabata is scientifically proven to be a massive calorie burn and excellent cardiovascular conditioning in a short amount of time, and you will see results if you are consistent with it. However, Tabata is not truly Tabata unless you are going FULL out for those 20 seconds and giving yourself a full rest during those 10 seconds. So be sure to challenge yourself (while being smart and listening to your body). The workouts in the Lean Body Series are for EVERYbody – men and women of all ages and fitness levels. No matter who you are, this series will get you shredded and breaking through plateaus!
